Much work has been carried out on the Common this summer to keep it looking in good condition despite the hot, dry spell – and there's some news for dog walkers too!

A major renovation of the very popular children's play area at Les Amarreurs has been welcomed vy the Vale Commons Council, which allowed the facility to be created there 30 years ago.

Can the Common be managed on a more sustainable and "greener" basis? That's the aim of talks being held between the Vale Commons Council and the company that manages the golf course.

Left unchecked, bracken would soon spread over the Commons and destroy the natural – and far more biodiverse – natural habitat of unimproved grassland. So how does the Vale Commons Council management programme deal with this unwanted pest?
