Lucksall car park makeover is complete

Work undertaken by the Vale Commons Council to improve access and use of one of its main car parks near Les Amarreurs and Ladies’ Bay has been completed and the area is now open for public use.
There are two main benefits from what has been done – a better surface for cars and pedestrians and control over what had become nuisance parking, with vehicles either left there for extended periods or apparently abandoned.
The work has also enabled the VCC to install specific disabled spaces and resident-only parking that is available for rent.
Although the car park is open for use, the intention is also to put down Gridforce reinforcement on "the track" that leads from the road to residential properties to reduce wear and tear on the car park itself.
Support
The project, which turns Lucksall car park into a 10-hour disc zone, was made possible thanks to support from States’ Traffic and Highways Services, which needed to approve the work and agree to the required signs and accessible blue badge bays for disabled drivers.
"We're very pleased with the way it has turned out and the fact that it was possible to keep the costs for what turned out to be a lot of work to well below £100,000," said council president André Quevâtre.
He said that as well as maintaining the Common generally, the council managed its limited finances to try to ensure it was able to undertake more major projects as required.
"This car park gets a lot of use, particularly in the summer, so it's pleasing we have been able to improve access and ensure that it's available for proper use and not simply nuisance parking," he said.
